Pine Forest Karate Dojo was  founded by Sensei Daniel Gobillot in 1998.   We practice a traditional Okinawan form of karate called Ueshiro Shorin Ryu, which was brought to The United States by Master Ansei Ueshiro (pictured above) in 1962.  Master Ueshiro was elemental in the spread of this ancient art, and oversaw the opening of many dojos throughout the U.S.  After his death in 2002, leadership of the worldwide organization was taken over by Hanshi Robert Scaglione, 10th Dan.

Each year there are numerous organized gatherings that bring people together from different locations, to build community and to learn.  Shorin Ryu has roots in Zen; a pursuit of developing mind, body, and spirit.  We begin and end each class with meditation, and the primary focus is on kata; organized series of movements that help to develop our basic techniques, our strength, our stamina, our breathing, and the stillness of our minds.  The ultimate goal, a concept often referred to among the masters, is Mushin, or "no mind."  Through the rigorous practice of kata, we are seeking to leave behind the ego and to become one with our spirit.

"Karate is an art, a study and a practical application of an integrated philosophy.  It embodies physical, emotional and spiritual values which may be applied to all phases of one's everyday life."
~Hanshi Scaglione.
